Social Cognitive Theory-based Interventions
on Healthy Lifestyles for Hypertensive Patients:
        A Systematic Review

Ajarn Wachira Suriyawong and Asst. Prof. Dr. Noppamas
Pipatpiboon undertook this systematic review to
investigate the effects of various social cognitive
        theory (SCT)-based strategies promoting healthy
lifestyles for hypertensive patients. The literature on
randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the
effect of SCT-based interventions on healthy lifestyles
was searched from four electronic databases
(CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science), and
resulted in fifteen studies for review. Behaviors analyzed
included diet adherence (DA) and physical activity
(PA). Interventions which included training in PA and
identification of PA barriers had a greater effect on PA
improvement; longer interventions with more time for
sessions were more effective on DA. Chiang Mai

                                                         patients undergoing cardiac surgery

Dr. Kanchana Thana led this study investigating the
use of ultrafiltration (UF) in chronic kidney disease
(CKD) patients during cardiac surgery. Because CKD
patients are at a considerable risk for Acute Kidney
Injury (AKI), it is vital to identify possible risk mitigators.
Analyzing data from 306 chronic kidney disease
patients who had undergone cardiac surgery at
university hospitals in Thailand, it was found that
more than half also underwent UF during their cardio-
pulmonary bypass (CPB) surgery, giving the research
team a rich pool of data for analysis. The analysis
showed that CKD patients who had received UF were
also more prone to having higher postoperative serum
creatinine on the first day after surgery. However, the
occurrence of AKI among these patients was not
statistically significantly different from those who did
not receive UF. Further investigation is required in
