Master of Nursing Science International Program

 

Overview

The Master of Nursing Science (MNS) International Program is a professional degree that helps students gain in-depth knowledge and expertise in their chosen area of specialization. The program also provides skills that allow nurses to excel in the workplace and in their careers. Graduates from the program are able to respond to the changing needs in healthcare and society and are prepared for the advancements in health science and technology. The program has a strong focus on ethical professional principles and virtues, collaboration, and critical thinking. The MNS is thesis-based and focuses on the development of nursing knowledge in a particular concentration.  International students can base their thesis research in their home country.

The MNS International Program offers the opportunity for advanced study in specific fields of nursing science. Students can choose an area of concentration from one of the followings; nursing administration, adult and gerontological nursing and maternal and child nursing. The program has been designed to foster expert nursing scholars skillful in knowledge development, knowledge management, and research utilization through dynamic classroom activities and guided clinical experiences in diverse learning environments.

 

Program Goals

     The MNS International Program prepares graduates to

  1. Gain knowledge in nursing science, theories and concepts related to health and areas of specialization, and the ability to effectively integrate knowledge from nursing science and other related sciences in nursing practice.
  2. Contribute to the body of health knowledge and apply research results in their area of specialization.
  3. Develop systematic critical thinking, planning and problem solving, using skills in teamwork and cooperation with health care team and related persons.
  4. Communicate and transfer knowledge and academic information using appropriate methods, and support others in developing their professional career
  5. Be able to do self-directed learning

 

Curriculum

The curriculum of the MNS International Program is designed to provide students with a foundation in core leadership and research courses as well as core competencies in their field of specialization. Ample electives are available for students to pursue individual interests. Students gain hands-on research skills through conducting original thesis research. In addition, students are required to take part in the following ongoing academic activities to build their research skills:

Seminars

To promote a scholarly environment and to provide students the opportunity to develop public speaking and presentation skills, students are required to present a seminar on a topic related to their thesis once every semester for at least two semesters.  Attendance at student seminars is mandatory.

 Publications

The student thesis must be developed for publication and successfully publishing is a graduation requirement.

 

Full-Time Study

Duration: The MNS program of four regular semesters is typically completed in two years. The period of study shall not exceed four academic years.

Requirements

Admission Qualifications

  1. Applicants must hold a bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent degree received from an institute that has been accredited by the Higher Education Commission, Ministry of Education, Thailand or the relevant authorized organization in the applicant’s country.
  2. Applicants must hold a professional nursing license from the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council or relevant authorized organization the in applicant’s country.
  3. Applicants must have at least one year of working experience as a professional nurse.
  4. Applicants must have a minimum English examination score: TOEFL (paper based score of more than 500 or computer based score of more than 173 or an internet based score of more than 61); IELTS of band 5.5 or higher; or CMU e-TEGs score of 65 or higher.

  3. Copy of degree certificate(s)  (with an English translation)
  4. 2.5 cm, full-face photographs, less than 3 months old (affixed to the application form)
  5. Copy of applicant’s ID card and/or passport name and picture page
  6. Letter of recommendation from the Dean, Director, or Supervisor of the applicant’s workplace.
  7. Official TOEFL/ IELTS /TEGs score or other English Certificate
  8. Financial support certificate
  9. Proposed research project
  10. Published research (if any)
  11. Certified letter stating English as  official language in the applicant’s country

Master of Nursing Science Program in Community Nurse Practitioner

 

Overview

The MNS program in community nurse practitioner integrates sciences in community nursing including other related sciences by focusing on the health of individuals, families, groups, and communities. The program was designed to produce community nurse practitioners who are competent in health promotion, disease prevention, primary care provision, and rehabilitation.

 

Program Goals

The MNS program in community nurse practitioner prepares graduates to:

  1. Be scholars and capabilities in the field of community nurse practitioner
  2. Conduct research and utilize research findings for providing continuous community health services
  3. Be a community nurse practitioner with competency as determined by the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council
  4. Seek knowledge continuously to develop self, profession, and society
  5. Have a moral, ethics, and professional codes of ethics in professional nursing practice
  6. Have communication skills and use digital technology in professional nursing practice

Master of Nursing Science Program in Gerontological Nurse Practitioner

 

Overview

The master of nursing science (MNS) program in gerontological nurse practitioner focuses on the relationships between individuals, environment, health, nursing care in responding to a changing and aging society. This program integrates health sciences and related sciences including primary medical care, and gerontological nursing. Our graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to care for both healthy and sick elders and their families, including those who are at the end stage of life, through health promotion, disease prevention, curation, rehabilitation, and palliative care. Our program will prepare our graduates to effectively practice as a nurse practitioner in the area of gerontological nursing in accordance with competencies determined by the Thailand Nursing and Midwifery Council.

 

Program Goals

The MNS program in gerontological nurse practitioner prepares graduates to:

  1. be knowledgeable in nursing sciences related to nursing practitioner and gerontological nursing, including related concepts and theories
  2. Be able to practice as a gerontological nurse practitioner with the following competencies:      
  • Develop, manage, and monitor an elderly care system in different circumstances (normal, risk, and illness) by using health promotion, disease prevention, primary medical care, rehabilitation, and palliative care

Master of Nursing Science Program in Nursing Administration

 

Overview

The MNS program in nursing administration integrates knowledge from nursing administration e.g. leadership, strategic management in organizations and health care system, strategic human resource management in health care setting, information technology and nursing quality management, including other related sciences such as research, statistics, and evidence base practice to analyze and develop new body of knowledge in nursing administration and apply problem solving skills in health care service system in various hospital and health care settings. We focus on producing nurse administrators and academics in nursing administration who have competencies. Graduates will be prepared to have knowledge and integrate sciences in nursing administration and other related sciences, conduct research, have ethical consideration, and be leaders in health care organizations.

The MSN program in nursing administration prepares graduates to:

Master of Nursing Science Program in Nursing Care for Patient with Infectious Disease and Infection Control

 

Overview

The MNS program in nursing care for patient with infectious disease and infection control focuses on the practice to prevent and control infectious diseases in patients and vulnerable people. The program is designed for graduates to apply knowledge, concepts and theories in nursing, behavioural, and other related sciences to nursing practice to prevent and control infection. Graduates will be prepared to be academics or practitioners who are competent in caring for patients with complicated infection diseases. They will be equipped with skills in surveillance, monitoring, management, coordination, teaching, consultation, research and evidence based utilization in caring for patients with infectious disease, controlling infection both in health care settings and communities.

 

Program Goals

The MNS program in nursing care for patient with infectious disease and infection control prepares graduates to:

  1. Have knowledge in concepts, and theories related to health and infection control nursing, and integrate knowledge from those sciences in the effective practice of infection control nursing

☞ Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

Master of Nursing Science Program in Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

 

Overview

The main purpose of the MNS Program in Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner is to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities to practice occupational health nursing. Students who graduate from this program will be able to analyze the continuous changes in the field of occupational health and use this information to provide appropriate occupational health services for workers who work under normal conditions or at-risk conditions. This program will enhance the capacity of students to become an occupational health nurse practitioner in prevention and reduction of risk factors related to the conditions of the work environment. Students will be able to analyze the occupational health risks of each specific group of workers and will able to provide advice and suggestion on the management of a safe work environment by using an integration of occupational health nursing and related sciences for occupational health team. Also, they will be able to use an evidence-based technology and innovation to enhance the health of workres and to protect their health as well as to prevent occupational diseases among workers. This is anticipated to improve the quality of working life among workers, thereby increasing workplace productivity and enhance national economic development.          

 

Program Goals

The MNS program in occupational health nurse practitioner prepares graduates to:

  1. Gain knowledge, understanding and the ability to analyze and assess the risk, impact and trend of health effects related to work including acute and chronic health problems under the context of workplace, family and community.
  2. Develop an approach for preventing and controlling hazards in the workplace among workers which include occupational health risk identification and control to contribute to healthy workers and to meet the standards of safety at work and occupational health
  3. Develop and disseminate a body of knowledge including health promotion and holistic health care for workers with various and different cultures who work under normal conditions or are at risk of occupational injury, and emergency and chronic illnesses
  4. Gain a virtual, moral, and responsibility in practice under the scope of the nursing profession
  5. Be an occupational health nursing leader, lecturer, and supervisor who is able to collaboratively work with other disciplines and related professions; and effectively manage occupational health nursing.  
  6. Integrate knowledge through using computer and digital technology, initiate creative thinking and innovation to develop an approach of health care for workers.
  7. Develop and improve continuously as an academic, conduct research to build a body of knowledge, and use evidence-based documents to practice quality occupational health nursing

☞ Pediatric Nursing

Master of Nursing Science Program in Pediatric Nursing

 

Overview

The MNS program in pediatric nursing focuses on the holistic and family-based health care for children. We integrate evidence based care in nursing science, including other related sciences, ethics and morals in care in order to promote health, to prevent diseases and traumas, to cure disease, and to rehabilitate, including end of life care among complicated, chronic, and critically ill newborns and children. Our program also focuses on the issues of children and the protection of their families’ rights. We design our program to prepare graduates to have knowledge and skills in the practice of pediatric nursing, to integrate and build links with pediatric nursing science and other related sciences, to apply knowledge and innovative thinking. 

 

Program Goals

The MNS program in pediatric nursing prepares graduates to:

  1. Have ethics and morals to lead society, and have ethical reasoning in the practice of pediatric nursing
  2. Have knowledge in pediatric nursing and other related sciences, including concepts and theories related to the practice of pediatric nursing in complicated, chronic, and critically ill newborns and children
  3. Be competent in providing nursing to specific or complicated groups of children in a multicultural context by integrating sciences in pediatric nursing and other related sciences

Master of Nursing Science Program in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

 

Overview

The MNS program in psychiatric and mental health nursing focuses on psychiatric diseases and mental health of individuals across their life span, including family and community. We believe that caring for the psychiatric and mental health of an individual is a holistic approach. An imbalance of an individual’s physical, psychological, social and spiritual natures will lead to diseases and mental health illnesses. Psychiatric and mental health promotion, prevention, curation, and rehabilitation are important for individuals, their families, and their community. Graduates in the psychiatric and mental health nursing program will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to be academics, researchers, and practitioners in the area of psychiatric and mental health. They will be able to promote the mental health state of Thai people, prevent psychiatric and mental health problems, reduce behavioural risks in some groups, such alcoholics and drug users, and rehabilitate patients with mental health illnesses to be able to improve the quality of their lives. Also, they will be prepared to teach and conduct research to develop a body of knowledge in the area of psychiatric and mental health nursing.

Master of Nursing Science Program in Midwifery

Overview

The MNS program in midwifery aims to produce graduates who are competent in integrating midwifery science and other relevant sciences in holistic midwifery care regarding physiology, pathology, and pharmacology related to reproductive health, assessment, illness prevention, health promotion, and health care for childbearing women with normal condition, high risk condition, and complex health problems; can be a leader in conducting research and implementing research findings and evidence; have decision-making and problem-solving skills based on morality, ethics, professional ethics, and law; have self, professional, and social responsibilities; be able to work as an interprofessional team;  and have ongoing self-development as a lifelong learner for professional development and improving quality and effective services in order to enhance the well-being of clients, families, the community, society, and nation.

The MNS program in adult and gerontological nursing focuses on learning about the characteristics, the living and well-being of adult and older adults, health problems in adult and older adults with trauma and emergency condition, critical illness condition, chronic illness condition, and end of life and family, how to prevent and to cure diseases and illnesses.
